The Golf Putter that is Right for You

Selecting the putter for your own use is a very important decision. You want a piece of equipment you can count on at each and every interval of your golf play. Moreover, the golf putter is the one club that you are going to use the most in your entire history of golfing. Therefore, choosing the right one is almost like shopping around for a new best friend. You want the kind of “friend” that you can count on all the time, the kind you can automatically feel comfortable with and the kind that will not betray you with any perceived shortcomings on the green.

There are, of course, some basic considerations which you need to keep in mind every time you select yet another golf putter to add to your pack. That consideration usually begins with the selection of the putter head or what is commonly known as the bottom section. Here lie the brains as well as the potential for success in your putter and ultimately, your golf game. While there are definitely a lot of factors you need to consider aside from this (such as the grip and the length of the club), the putter head is of prime importance

The Putter Head

The putter head is said to be the most significant element of the entire putter because here is the position which actually makes direct contact with the ball and the green as well. The head is made up of material that also that has a bearing with how the ball actually moves as well as the direction it takes around the green. Using cheap or what is known as “dumb” putters are the ones that were actually made of lighter material such as zinc, aluminum or light plastic. These light materials mean you need to exert more effort in hitting the ball a lot harder while you are on the green and are more prone to making errors or mistakes while on the course. Using “smart” putters, however, will of course mean none of these, thanks to the material that is sturdier and of better quality.

The smart putter is usually made of stainless steel, brass or titanium material. Sometimes a bit of wood is mixed along with it and made to be combined with other types of materials which can help create a head that is a lot more solid. You will of course only get to feel the difference once you actually strike the golf ball. While playing on the slow green, your ball will usually end up a bit easier. On the fast green, however, you will notice that you could hardly seem to have to strike it for it to move.

The Perimeter Weighting tied with Lie-Angle

Another consideration you need to think about would be the perimeter weight as well as the lie-angle of the golf putters. These are two very important considerations with regard to the head of the putter. The perimeter weighting is related to the size as well as the shape of the golf head. If you will notice, there is a recess that lies in the middle of the head. Such a recess will make it possible for the putter’s weight to be well distributed between the toe and the heel – which is actually quite preferable.

There is another important factor, which is the lie angle of the putter head. This consideration will let you know if the putter is resting flat against the ground every time you hold it in your hands. If you put yourself in a very comfortable stance, you can request the salesperson to check this position for you. The putter head will need to be adjusted if it is not sitting against the ground flatly.
